<\/span>Last year, Gov. Mitch Daniels (R-IN) attacked the House\u2019s climate change bill saying that \u201cit looks like imperialism<\/a>\u201d because of the cap-and-trade provisions in the bill. However, Daniels refrained from addressing climate change science, saying that it is \u201cbeing addressed by others.\u201d<\/p>\n

But yesterday on C-Span, Daniels weighed in on the science and it appears that he comes down on the side of the global warming deniers:<\/p>\n

DANIELS: In terms of climate change, I think that everyone would be well advised to take a substantial time out. There\u2019s been nothing but dubious news about the science of all this now for about a year, including apparent scientific wrongdoing<\/strong>. Meanwhile, we\u2019re left with a situation where even if the zealots had their way, and the most extreme measures were taken, by their own computer models, we don\u2019t move the world thermometer at all<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In referring to \u201capparent scientific wrongdoing,\u201d Daniels is presumably referring the the so-called \u201cClimate-Gate\u201d non-scandal in which scientists at the University of East Angila\u2019s Climatic Research Unit in the UK were accused by conspiracy theorists<\/a> of tampering with data in order to exaggerate the threat of global warming.<\/p>\n

However, just last week, the House of Commons\u2019 Science and Technology Committee cleared the scientists<\/a> of any \u201cwrongdoing,\u201d concluding that \u201cthe scientific reputation of [the scientists] and CRU remains intact.\u201d The committee said that there is no evidence that data presented by the CRU challenges the scientific consensus that \u201cglobal warming is happening and that it is induced by human activity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moreover, it\u2019s unclear whose \u201ccomputer models\u201d Daniels is referring to when he claims \u201cextreme measures\u201d won\u2019t reduce global warming. The Met Office Hadley Centre, the UK\u2019s \u201cforemost<\/a> climate change research centre,\u201d found that taking \u201crapid\u201d action to reduce greenhouse gases in 2010 could prevent<\/a> average world temperatures from increasing by up to 4.3 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n

The International Panel on Climate Change has concluded that global warming and climate change are real and that it is man made. In fact, a panel of eminent U.S. and European scientists recently \u201cconfirmed the widespread scientific consensus that the Earth\u2019s climate is warming due to human activities<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
