I saw this classic Nissan 300zx commercial on Youtube and just had to write about it. Way back when, I had a 1984 300zx, 2+2 with a 5-speed and 3.0-liter 160 hp V6. Back then this car was the shiznit as it was the technical equivalent of today’s Nissan GT-R<\/a>. It had a fully digitized dash board with this crazy baby grand piano tachometer, a built in G-meter in the center of the dash, plus it talked! Ladies and gentleman back in the day that was big stuff. With sayings like: “Your door is ajar”<\/em> or “Your headlights are on”<\/em>, the 1984 Nissan 300zx was a true master of the obvious. <\/p>\n

The 3.0-liter V6 put out 160 hp and although anemic by today’s standards, that was actually a pretty good number back then. Since my car was also a 5-speed, I could just rev it out, dump the clutch and roast the tires at will. It was a really fun ride that also came equipped with t-tops. Speed wise it was no hammer and it topped out at 124 mph. When I first saw this old add I immediately thought it was the cheesiest thing I’d ever seen. Descriptives like, Major Motion<\/em> and It’s Awesome<\/em>, were used to describe it and they were no doubt sung by some Pat Benatar lookalike’s in a recording studio someplace. Thinking back on it now though, I was a kid wearing big Vuarnet sunglasses, a tank top and high tops, so maybe yea… it was awesome. Amazing how these old ads stir up the memories isn’t it.<\/p>\n
