{"id":518317,"date":"2010-04-06T11:19:44","date_gmt":"2010-04-06T15:19:44","guid":{"rendered":"tag:blogs.rj.org,2010:\/rac\/\/2.2638"},"modified":"2010-04-06T12:59:45","modified_gmt":"2010-04-06T16:59:45","slug":"tweeting-anne-frank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/518317","title":{"rendered":"Tweeting Anne Frank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        <span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"AnneFrank_bw.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.rj.org\/rac\/AnneFrank_bw.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-right\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 20px 20px; float: right;\" width=\"132\" height=\"200\" \/><\/span>Proving that social media really is changing the way we<br \/>\ninteract, advocate and raise awareness, the United Nations and the Anne Frank<br \/>\nCenter USA are honoring Yom Ha&#8217;Shoah in a very new way &#8211; using Twitter. <\/p>\n<p>Last week, the two organizations launched a Twitter campaign<br \/>\nfor students in memory of Anne Frank, one of the Holocaust&#8217;s most recognized<br \/>\nvictims, whose compelling World War II diary is still widely used as reading<br \/>\nand educational material.<\/p>\n<p>The thrust of the campaign is this: Students are asked to &#8220;travel back in<br \/>\ntime&#8221; and write to Anne through 140-character tweets, essentially<br \/>\npretending to communicate with her from her family&#8217;s hiding spot in Amsterdam.<br \/>\nThe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/holocaustremembrance\/2010\/annefrank.shtml\">project<br \/>\nwebsite<\/a> asks, &#8220;If Anne Frank had had a way to receive Tweets while in<br \/>\nhiding and could have been communicating in secret with other young people in<br \/>\nthe world about the persecution and hatred that her family and friends were<br \/>\nexperiencing, what messages of support would you have sent Anne? What would you<br \/>\nhave told Anne that you have learned from her life and experience?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kimberly Mann, Manager of the Holocaust and the UN Outreach Programme in the<br \/>\nDepartment of Public Information&#8217;s Outreach Division, said of the project,<br \/>\n&#8220;This exercise is meant to help young people make a meaningful connection<br \/>\nto the Holocaust through the words of a courageous young girl.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tweets to Anne should be directed at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/unandholocaust\">@UnandHolocaust<\/a>; the project<br \/>\nwill last until Yom Ha&#8217;Shoah, Holocaust remembrance Day, on April 11.
