{"id":519019,"date":"2010-04-06T23:01:19","date_gmt":"2010-04-07T03:01:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.personalliberty.com\/liberty\/acupuncture-may-help-restore-sense-of-smell-following-respiratory-tract-infection\/"},"modified":"2010-04-06T23:01:19","modified_gmt":"2010-04-07T03:01:19","slug":"acupuncture-may-help-restore-sense-of-smell-following-respiratory-tract%c2%a0infection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/519019","title":{"rendered":"Acupuncture May Help Restore Sense Of Smell Following Respiratory Tract\u00a0Infection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/pictures.directnews.co.uk\/liveimages\/Acupuncture+_1961_19704269_0_0_7031806_300.jpg\" alt=\"Acupuncture may help restore sense of smell following respiratory tract infection\" align=\"right\" class=\"post_image\">According to a recent study published in the April issue of the journal <em>Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery<\/em>, Chinese acupuncture may be a safe and effective treatment option for those afflicted with persistent post-viral olfactory dysfunction (PVOD), a condition commonly linked to an upper respiratory tract infection. <\/p>\n<p>Currently, there is no validated pharmacotherapy option for PVOD, which affects approximately 2 million Americans each year and often leads to a temporary loss of the sense of smell and permanent damage to the olfactory system. <\/p>\n<p>In the study, the research team recruited 15 patients with PVOD and treated them with 10 weekly 30-minute sessions of acupuncture.
