{"id":519238,"date":"2010-04-07T12:42:59","date_gmt":"2010-04-07T16:42:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dirt.asla.org\/?p=4304"},"modified":"2010-04-07T12:42:59","modified_gmt":"2010-04-07T16:42:59","slug":"gilberto-esparza%e2%80%99s-plant-robot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/519238","title":{"rendered":"Gilberto Esparza\u2019s Plant Robot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/aslathedirt.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/04\/plantrobot.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4305\" title=\"plantrobot\" src=\"http:\/\/aslathedirt.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/04\/plantrobot.jpg?w=300&#038;h=284\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"284\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iconeye.com\/index.php?view=article&amp;catid=1%3Alatest-news&amp;layout=news&amp;id=4324%3Anomadic-plants-by-gilberto-esparza&amp;option=com_content&amp;Itemid=18\" >Iconeye<\/a><\/em>\u00a0magazine wrote about\u00a0Mexican\u00a0artist <a href=\"http:\/\/gilbertoesparza.blogspot.com\/\" >Gilberto Esparza&#8217;s <\/a>plant robot, a roving art installation.\u00a0Called &#8220;Nomadic Plants,&#8221; the robot is part of an exhibition organized by LABoral Gallery in Asturias, Spain.<em>\u00a0Iconeye<\/em> says the project is inspired by\u00a0&#8221;natural processes whereby plants adapt to hostile environments and colonise new territories.&#8221; The nomadic plant is autonomous, and leads an\u00a0&#8221;unthreatening existence,&#8221; living off industrial waste.<\/p>\n<p>Esparza told\u00a0<em>Iconeye<\/em>:\u00a0&#8221;Nowadays robots are a waste of energy: they dance and they move all the time.&#8221; To make\u00a0his plant robot self-sufficient but also productive, he designed it so it runs on bacteria found in waste. &#8220;When these microorganisms need nourishment the machine seeks out dirty water, which is then decomposed to create energy; any surplus is used to emit a noise and sustain plants carried on its back.
