He <a href=\"http:\/\/dotearth.blogs.nytimes.com\/2010\/04\/07\/on-the-energy-gap-and-climate-crisis\/\">kicks things off<\/a> at his new digs by<br \/>\nexplaining why he prefers to think about a collective &#8220;energy quest&#8221; rather than<br \/>\na &#8220;climate crisis.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This doesn&#8217;t mean I<br \/>\nreject the idea that we face a climate crisis. I just don&#8217;t think that phrase<br \/>\nis a productive way to frame this challenge, particularly as defined over the<br \/>\nlast few years <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2006\/04\/23\/weekinreview\/23revkin.html\">in the<br \/>\nheated policy debate<\/a>,&#8221; he writes.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Climate change might be<br \/>\nthe reason for the trek, he seems to be arguing, but we complete that journey<br \/>\nby watching the ground at our feet and the path ahead (by developing and implementing smart energy solutions), not by fixating on the<br \/>\nstarting point.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re not even<br \/>\nclose to investing what we should be, he points out. U.S. R&amp;D funding for energy is a pittance<br \/>\ncompared to other areas.
