While the German automaker confirmed that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.egmcartech.com\/2010\/03\/17\/americans-may-not-get-the-benefits-of-volkswagen-r-gmbh\/\">Americans may not get any R GmbH models anytime soon<\/a>, news about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.egmcartech.com\/2009\/10\/07\/2010-volkswagen-golf-r-coming-to-the-u-s-next-year-will-be-badged-gti-r\/\">Golf \u00a0R earmarked for the stateside<\/a> had us a bit excited&#8230; until now.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report by <em>Wheels <\/em>of <em>The New York Times<\/em>, the Golf R hatchback is still in question for the U.S. market.<\/p>\n<p>The performance-oriented Golf R is &#8220;still up in the air,\u201d said Volkswagen spokesman Steve Keyes. \u201cWe\u2019d love to have it, but it\u2019s a question now of euros versus dollars,&#8221; Keyes said.<\/p>\n<p>Yes &#8211; we&#8217;re really disappointed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Refresher<\/strong>: The 2010 Volkswagen Golf R is powered by a  2.0L TSI direct-injected and turbocharged 4-cylinder making 266-hp and  258 lb-ft of torque.
