The AP has a report (no link yet) that Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens is retiring.  This has been rumored for a while.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE II<\/strong>: Chief Justice John Roberts <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2010\/04\/justice-stevens-will-retire-this-summer.php\">confirmed this<\/a> in a letter.  Stevens will serve out the current term, giving the President and the Senate until October, basically, to fill out the Court.<\/p>\n<p>More when I have it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE<\/strong>: There&#8217;s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/nation-world\/supreme-court-justice-john-448620.html\">link<\/a> now.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class='wbq'>\n<p>Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, the court&#8217;s oldest member and leader of its liberal bloc, he is retiring. President Barack Obama now has his second high court opening to fill.<\/p>\n<p>Stevens said Friday he will step down when the court finishes its work for the summer in late June or early July. He said he hopes his successor is confirmed &#8220;well in advance of the commencement of the court&#8217;s next term.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>His announcement had been hinted at for months.
