They gained market share among smartphone users in the three-month period ending in February, over the three-month period ending November 2009. Apple was flat during this period, which makes for an interesting juxtaposition. Android made the biggest gains, which is unsurprising because it’s still a young platform. Yet we could see big changes in 2010.

We’re already seeing more Android devices from every carrier, and some of the most anticipated new handsets of the year will feature the Android OS. With more devices on more carriers, that’s starting to mirror RIM’s strategy. Android has an under 10 percent market share right now, but that surely will change by year’s end. Also affecting RIM is the possibility of the iPhone’s exposure to many more Americans, as we could see a Verizon version this year.

Thankfully for RIM, they’re well positioned. It’s pretty clear, though, that the smartphone landscape will change dramatically in 2010.

This post originated at BBGeeks.com – home to all things Blackberry!
