The<a href=\"http:\/\/www.egmcartech.com\/2010\/04\/07\/nhtsa-seeking-16-4-million-in-fines-from-toyota\/\"> NHTSA originally announced a record $16.4 million civil penalty against Toyota<\/a> earlier this week for failing to disclose information on the issue. That same letter said that the NHTSA may add an additional fine on the same pedals.<\/p>\n<p>The letter said that the Toyota vehicle pedals \u201chad two separate defects that may require two separate remedies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Toyota has recalled more than 8 million cars and trucks worldwide for two defects that may cause unintended acceleration.
