Toyota may now be fined a second time for failing to alert the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that its gas pedals may get stuck and cause unintended acceleration. The NHTSA originally announced a record $16.4 million civil penalty against Toyota<\/a> earlier this week for failing to disclose information on the issue. That same letter said that the NHTSA may add an additional fine on the same pedals.<\/p>\n

The letter said that the Toyota vehicle pedals \u201chad two separate defects that may require two separate remedies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Toyota has recalled more than 8 million cars and trucks worldwide for two defects that may cause unintended acceleration. CEO and President Akio Toyoda admitted that his failed to share defect information adequately among regional units.<\/p>\n
