potable water to sustain the global population of human beings.\u00a0 Researchers at the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science at <a title=\"ucla seas website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.engineer.ucla.edu\/\" >UCLA<\/a> have come up with one solution, a membrane made of\u00a0 a specially engineered nanoscale material that can <a title=\"ucla press release\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newsroom.ucla.edu\/portal\/ucla\/ucla-engineering-researchers-develop-156227.aspx\" >purify water with far greater energy efficiency<\/a> than current technology.<\/p>\n<p>Not that we really could drink our way out of climate change and rising sea levels, but a more energy efficient way to desalinate seawater could enable the world&#8217;s population to use the oceans as a
