Its No atmeal!\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/>When you\u2019re looking for a protein-packed breakfast, <a title=\"http:\/\/www.marksdailyapple.com\/egg-purchasing-guide\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.marksdailyapple.com\/egg-purchasing-guide\/\" >eggs<\/a> and meat seem like the most obvious choice. But if you go for the most obvious choice every single morning, it\u2019s easy to get stuck in a rut. So on those mornings when meat and eggs aren\u2019t what you\u2019re craving and you wake up feeling less like a hunter and more like a gatherer, try Mark&#8217;s Daily Apple reader Doug Descant\u2019s ingenious recipe for No-atmeal.<\/p>\n<p>Pronounced \u201cnote-meal\u201d (as in, no oatmeal) Doug\u2019s recipe, that he submitted for the <a title=\"Primal Cookbook Challenge\" href=\"http:\/\/www.marksdailyapple.com\/primal-blueprint-contests\/primal-blueprint-reader-created-cookbook-contest\/\" >Primal Cookbook Challenge<\/a>, is for all you ex-cereal lovers out there and for anyone who needs a warm bowl of comforting goodness on a cold winter morning. As Doug says, \u201cit\u2019s a hot meal full of essential proteins and fats, not to mention the necessary vitamins and minerals, in order to stay energized for the cold weeks ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-9363\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In Doug\u2019s recipe a blend of pecans, walnuts and a dash of flaxseed is warmed up with almond milk custard, mashed banana and almond butter to create a wholly satisfying hot cereal. The texture is rich and so is the flavor, especially when you add warming spices like cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger and a topping of fresh berries and almond milk. Just thinking about eating No-atmeal for breakfast is guaranteed to coax you out of bed in the morning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"No-atmeal Ingredients\" src=\"http:\/\/i247.photobucket.com\/albums\/gg158\/MDA2008\/MDA2009\/ingredients-11.jpg\" alt=\"ingredients 11 No Oat Oatmeal... Its No atmeal!\" width=\"359\" height=\"255\" \/><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 small handful of walnuts<\/li>\n<li>1 small handful of pecans<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons ground <a title=\"Is Flax Bad?\" href=\"http:\/\/www.marksdailyapple.com\/flax-prostate-cancer-risk\/\" >flax seed <\/a><\/li>\n<li>1\/2 &#8211; 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon<\/li>\n<li>1 pinch of ground nutmeg<\/li>\n<li>1 pinch ground ginger<\/li>\n<li>1 tablespoon almond butter<\/li>\n<li>1 banana, mashed<\/li>\n<li>3 eggs<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (add more if you prefer it a little runny)<\/li>\n<li>2 teaspoons pumpkin seeds<\/li>\n<li>1 handful of <a title=\"Goji Berries\" href=\"http:\/\/www.marksdailyapple.com\/goji-berries\/\" >goji berries<\/a> or fresh berries<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Directions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Add walnuts, pecans, flax seed and spices to a food processor and pulse it down to a course grain, making sure to stop before it\u2019s totally ground into a powder. Set aside.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Ground nuts\" src=\"http:\/\/i247.photobucket.com\/albums\/gg158\/MDA2008\/MDA2009\/ground_nutsandflax.jpg\" alt=\"ground nutsandflax No Oat Oatmeal... Its No atmeal!\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Whisk together eggs and almond milk (Doug uses a Blender Bottle) until the consistency thickens a little bit into a loose custard. Thoroughly blend together the mashed banana and almond butter and add it to the custard, mixing well.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"No-atmeal\" src=\"http:\/\/i247.photobucket.com\/albums\/gg158\/MDA2008\/MDA2009\/banana_almondbutter.jpg\" alt=\"banana almondbutter No Oat Oatmeal... Its No atmeal!\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Stir in the nut mixture. <a title=\"Microwave Safety\" href=\"http:\/\/www.marksdailyapple.com\/microwave-safety\/\" >Microwave<\/a> or gently warm on the stove until the \u201cno-atmeal\u201d reaches your desired consistency; this should only take a few minutes. In both cases, stir the mixture frequently as it cooks.<\/p>\n<p>Sprinkle pumpkin seeds and berries on top. Add more almond milk if you want.
