{"id":524841,"date":"2010-04-12T15:04:16","date_gmt":"2010-04-12T19:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greenrightnow.com\/?p=10675"},"modified":"2010-04-12T15:04:16","modified_gmt":"2010-04-12T19:04:16","slug":"changes-help-timberland-reduce-greenhouse-gas-emissions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/524841","title":{"rendered":"Changes help Timberland reduce greenhouse gas emissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>From Green Right Now Reports<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Outdoor footwear and apparel company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timberland.com\/home\/index.jsp\" >Timberland<\/a> says it reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 36 percent in 2009 over 2006 levels, citing improvements at its own facilities and a reduction in employee air travel.<\/p>\n<p>The company has set a goal of reducing emissions by 50 percent by the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>All new Timberland stores in North America are being built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usgbc.org\/DisplayPage.aspx?CMSPageID=1988\" >LEED<\/a>) specifications. The company also realized energy savings by installing LED lighting in nearly all of its U.S. stores.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of 2009, Timberland says, it was using nearly 12 percent renewable energy globally. The company\u2019s Ontario, Calif., distribution center is largely solar-powered, while its Enschede, Netherlands site is 100-percent wind-powered.<\/p>\n<p>Timberland also works with supply chain  partners to help reduce their emissions.
