{"id":525263,"date":"2010-04-12T22:45:54","date_gmt":"2010-04-13T02:45:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/climateprogress.org\/?p=22761"},"modified":"2010-04-12T22:45:54","modified_gmt":"2010-04-13T02:45:54","slug":"bye-bye-global-cooling-myth-hottest-march-and-hottest-jan-feb-march-on-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/525263","title":{"rendered":"Bye-bye, global cooling myth:  Hottest March and hottest Jan-Feb-March on record"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.drroyspencer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/UAH_LT_1979_thru_Mar_10.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22901\" title=\"UAH Spencer March 10\" src=\"http:\/\/climateprogress.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/UAH-Spencer-March-10.gif\" alt=\"UAH Spencer March 10\" width=\"500\" height=\"302\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It was the hottest March in both satellite records (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nsstc.uah.edu\/data\/msu\/t2lt\/tltglhmam_5.3\">UAH<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.remss.com\/data\/msu\/monthly_time_series\/RSS_Monthly_MSU_AMSU_Channel_TLT_Anomalies_Land_and_Ocean_v03_2.txt\">RSS<\/a>), and tied for the hottest March on record in the <a href=\"http:\/\/data.giss.nasa.gov\/gistemp\/tabledata\/GLB.Ts+dSST.txt\">NASA dataset<\/a>.\u00a0 It was the hottest (or tied for hottest) January through March in all three records.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The record temperatures we\u2019re seeing now are especially  impressive because we\u2019ve been in \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/headlines\/y2009\/03sep_sunspots.htm\">the   deepest solar minimum in nearly a century<\/a>.\u201d <\/strong>It now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/SolarCycle\/\">appears<\/a> to be over.<strong> <\/strong> It\u2019s just hard to stop the march of anthropogenic global warming, well,  other than by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, that is.<\/p>\n<p>NASA&#8217;s prediction from last month is standing up:\u00a0 <a title=\"Permanent Link to NASA:  \u201cIt is nearly certain  that a new record 12-month global temperature will be set in 2010\u2033\" rel=\"bookmark\" href=\"http:\/\/climateprogress.org\/2010\/03\/19\/nasa-giss-james-hansen-global-warming-record-hottest-year\/\">\u201cIt is nearly certain that a new record 12-month global temperature  will be set in 2010.\u2033<\/a> Actually, NASA made that prediction <a href=\"http:\/\/climateprogress.org\/2009\/11\/24\/nasa-hottest-year-on-record-2009-2005-2007\/\">back<\/a> in January 2009:<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-22761\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Given our expectation of the next El Ni\u00f1o beginning in 2009 or 2010, it  still seems likely that a new global temperature record will be set  within the next 1-2 years, despite the moderate negative effect of the  reduced solar irradiance.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course, there never was any global cooling \u2014 see <a title=\"Permanent    Link to Must-read AP story:   Statisticians reject global cooling;    Caldeira \u2014 \u201cTo talk about global  cooling at the end of the hottest    decade the planet has experienced in  many thousands of years is    ridiculous.\u201d  Levitt \u201csaid he does not  believe there is a cooling    trend\u201d!!\" rel=\"bookmark\" href=\"http:\/\/climateprogress.org\/2009\/10\/26\/global-cooling-myth-statisticians-caldeira-superfreakonomics\/\">Must-read    AP story:  Statisticians  reject global cooling; Caldeira \u2014 \u201cTo talk    about global cooling at the  end of the hottest decade the planet has    experienced in many thousands  of years is ridiculous.\u201d<\/a> Indeed,  the overwhelming\u00a0  majority of the warming went right where scientists had  predicted \u2014  into  the oceans (see \u201c<a title=\"Permanent Link to The  Climate Science   Project,  Part 2:  How we know global warming is  happening\" rel=\"bookmark\" href=\"http:\/\/climateprogress.org\/2010\/02\/15\/the-climate-science-project-global-warming-is-happening-ocean-heat-content\/\">How    we know global warming is happening<\/a>\u201d):<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.skepticalscience.com\/images\/Total-Heat-Content.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Figure: \u201cTotal Earth Heat Content [anomaly] from 1950 (Murphy et al.  2009).
