In the case of the engineering team at the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, that\u2019s a good thing.  It gave them the time and motivation to develop the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.raceabout.fi\/era\/index.php?page=introduction\">Electric Race About (ERA)<\/a>, one of the more attractive electric cars built to date.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-43463\"><\/span><object width=\"480\" height=\"385\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/vg4BLrbwuLY&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/vg4BLrbwuLY&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"480\" height=\"385\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Built to compete in the Automotive X-Prize competition, the ERA features AWD via four electric motors powered by lithium ion battery packs.  The engineering target weight is 2,750 pounds, and the ERA design features even front-to-back weight distribution and a low center of gravity.  The goal is a 0 to 60 time of under 5 seconds, with a top speed of better than 120 miles per hour.  Target operational range (at less than full throttle, of course) is greater than 180 miles.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ridelust.com\/the-era-finlands-answer-to-the-tesla-roadster\/era-the-finnish-electric-sports-car-medium_2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-43465\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ridelust.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/era-the-finnish-electric-sports-car-medium_2.jpg\" alt=\"ERA Electric Car\" title=\"era-the-finnish-electric-sports-car-medium_2\" width=\"468\" height=\"312\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-43465\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If the car sees production, it won\u2019t be cheap.  It\u2019s built by hand and relies heavily on carbon fiber  to keep the weight down.  Components will be sourced from best-in-class suppliers in limited quantities, but you can rest assured you won\u2019t see too many other ERAs on the road.
