{"id":526372,"date":"2010-04-13T12:51:41","date_gmt":"2010-04-13T16:51:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/opiniojuris.org\/?p=11936"},"modified":"2010-04-13T12:51:41","modified_gmt":"2010-04-13T16:51:41","slug":"washington-post-praises-harold-koh-statement-on-drones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/526372","title":{"rendered":"Washington Post Praises Harold Koh Statement on Drones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>by Kenneth Anderson <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Washington Post <a  href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/04\/12\/AR2010041204086.html\">editorializes today in praise of Legal Adviser Koh&#8217;s statement on drones<\/a> in his speech to ASIL on March 25. \u00a0It specifically focused on the self-defense distinction in the statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Mr. Koh&#8217;s reaffirmation of the right to self-defense &#8212; even outside the confines of an existing armed conflict &#8212; is particularly important. The\u00a0<a  href=\"http:\/\/news.findlaw.com\/wp\/docs\/terrorism\/sjres23.es.html\">Authorization for the Use of Military Force<\/a> (AUMF) after Sept. 11, 2001, empowered the president to pursue those responsible for the attacks, including al-Qaeda and the Taliban. That authority may wane with time.
