County is expected to tell the owners of 20 unkempt properties to clean up their homes or face stiff penalties.<\/p>\n<p>The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors<br \/>\nwill vote Tuesday on whether to order the owners to eliminate \u201cunsightly,<br \/>\nunsafe and unhealthful conditions\u201d on the properties, which were<br \/>\ndeclared public nuisances.<\/p>\n<p>If the board approves the move,<br \/>\nowners or county crews must remove overgrown vegetation and any trash or<br \/>\nmurky pool water, according to a Los Angeles County Department of<br \/>\nPublic Works report.<\/p>\n<p>Costs associated with the cleanup will be<br \/>\nbilled to the owner, who could be slapped with a special assessment on<br \/>\nthe property if the fee is not paid. <\/p>\n<p>An abatement lien notice also could be placed against the property.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The<br \/>\ngoal of code enforcers is to get compliance, Paul Novak, a deputy<br \/>\nfor county Supervisor Mike Antonovich told the News-Press, but if the issue persists, \u201cthe<br \/>\nsteps get elevated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glendalenewspress.com\/articles\/2010\/04\/13\/publicsafety\/gnp-house041310.txt\"><span>Read the full story here.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8212; Veronica Rocha, of the Glendale News-Press<br \/><\/br><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Photo: In a recent photo, a pipe sticks out of the ground by an empty swimming pool on a lot in<br \/>\nLa Crescenta.
