{"id":527607,"date":"2010-04-14T11:11:52","date_gmt":"2010-04-14T15:11:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/economics\/2010\/04\/14\/bernanke-us-should-press-china-on-yuan-policy\/"},"modified":"2010-04-14T11:11:52","modified_gmt":"2010-04-14T15:11:52","slug":"bernanke-u-s-should-press-china-on-yuan-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/527607","title":{"rendered":"Bernanke: U.S. Should Press China on Yuan Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. should continue to press China on its foreign exchange policy, <strong>Federal Reserve<\/strong> Board Chairman <strong>Ben Bernanke<\/strong> said Wednesday, agreeing with a top Democratic senator that the level of the yuan was one of the causes of the global recession.<\/p>\n<p>Bernanke agreed with Democratic Sen. <strong>Charles Schumer<\/strong> (D., N.Y.) that China&#8217;s currency exchange policy was a major cause of &#8220;harmful of global imbalances.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said China would benefit from a more flexible yuan. Combined with other steps by the Chinese government, Bernanke said a rising yuan would encourage the development of domestic consumption in China.<\/p>\n<p>But Bernanke declined to agree with Schumer that Congress should pursue a legislative solution that would compel the Obama administration to take action on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Bernanke said that the U.S. relationship with China is a complicated one.
