{"id":527941,"date":"2010-04-14T18:43:05","date_gmt":"2010-04-14T22:43:05","guid":{"rendered":"tag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00d8341c60fd53ef0133ecb12b6b970b"},"modified":"2010-04-14T18:43:05","modified_gmt":"2010-04-14T22:43:05","slug":"daley-open-to-wind-turbines-off-lake-michigan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/527941","title":{"rendered":"Daley open to wind turbines off Lake Michigan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Posted by Hal Dardick<\/em> at 5:42 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Richard Daley said today he&#8217;s open to looking at allowing energy-generating wind turbines off Lake Michigan.<br \/><\/br><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you have to look at it,\u201d Daley said. \u201cIf you want to talk about the environment or about the clean environment, alternative energy, everyone has to look at that.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>The mayor was asked about the idea today after the Evanston City Council\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/local\/northnorthwest\/ct-met-wind-turbines-0414-20100414,0,1095565.story\">last night voted<\/a> unanimously to ask developers to submit<br \/>\ntheir ideas about building turbines of their shores, just North of<br \/>\nChicago.<\/p>\n<p>Daley said there is consideration being given to putting smaller turbines on three water-intake cribs that are two miles out on the lake.<br \/><\/br><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt wouldn\u2019t be the big windmills, it would be a smaller one,\u201d he said, adding that they could provide the city Water Management Department with power and defray costs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have to look at it. You don\u2019t just dismiss it,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you want to go with alternative energy, we have to figure<br \/>\nthis out. We have to do alternative energy.
