And the numbers have been climbing at a pretty astounding rate. At Freedom Mine #1, across the Kentucky border from Upper Big Branch, there have been 389 violations this year, and 206 <em>since the Upper Big Branch explosion<\/em>. That&#8217;s 206 violations in 10 days.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s more, 63 of these violations were deemed &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.msha.gov\/mshainfo\/factsheets\/mshafct4.htm\" >significant and substantial<\/a>,\u201d meaning they are   \u201creasonably likely to result in a reasonably serious injury or illness   under the unique circumstance contributed to by the violations.\u201d<span id=\"more-82416\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s not just Freedom Mine #1.
