He had \u00a0what Bertrand Russell, author of <\/span><strong>The Conquest of Happiness<\/strong><span>, calls <\/span><strong>\u201cthe\u00a0habit of zest.\u201d<\/strong><span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>People who cultivate the habit of zest are those who regularly take\u00a0a lively interest in the most mundane of everyday moments and\u00a0see the extraordinary in the ordinary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nobel Prize winner and scientist Daniel Kahneman<\/strong> says we experience\u00a0about <span>20,000<\/span> individual moments in a day, each <strong>\u201cmoment\u201d<\/strong> lasting\u00a0only a few seconds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In my layman opinion,<\/strong> whenever you retain a memory, it\u2019s because you\u00a0were appreciating that single moment in time\u2014and were able to freeze-<span>frame it.<span> And&#8230;I also believe the more memories you have, the more you are <strong>\u201cliving in the\u00a0NOW.\u201d<\/strong><span> <\/span>And the fewer memories you have, the more you are fast-for<span>warding through life.<span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bounce Back Assignment:<\/strong><span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Cultivate the habit of zest. Purposefully seek out the beauty in the\u00a0seemingly trivial. Walt Whitman saw a world of beauty<strong> \u201cin a leaf\u00a0of grass.\u201d<\/strong> Notice the colors and shapes of the foods you eat. The\u00a0shadows a vase makes on the table. The interesting faces of the\u00a0people on the bus with you.
