{"id":531262,"date":"2010-04-17T08:44:44","date_gmt":"2010-04-17T12:44:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/climateprogress.org\/?p=22994"},"modified":"2010-04-17T08:44:44","modified_gmt":"2010-04-17T12:44:44","slug":"limbaugh-sarcastically-admits-don-blankenship-is-%e2%80%9cfor-big-profit-at-the-expense-of-the-working-man%e2%80%9d","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/531262","title":{"rendered":"Limbaugh sarcastically admits Don Blankenship is \u201cfor big profit at the expense of the working man\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, Rush Limbaugh responded to the West Virginia mining  disaster by attacking \u201cthe left.\u201d Limbaugh was especially incensed that  \u201cpropagandists\u201d linked the disaster to \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/home\/daily\/site_040710\/content\/01125110.guest.html\">tea  parties<\/a>, global warming, and capitalism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Limbaugh rallied to the defense  of killer coal baron <a href=\"http:\/\/wonkroom.thinkprogress.org\/tag\/blankenship\">Don Blankenship<\/a>,  the CEO of Massey Energy, who promotes his radical philosophy of coal  profits above all else on the <a href=\"http:\/\/crooksandliars.com\/karoli\/massey-energy-don-blankenship-million-dolla\">board  of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce<\/a>.\u00a0 <em>In this Wonk Room&#8217;s <\/em><em><a href=\"http:\/\/wonkroom.thinkprogress.org\/2010\/04\/13\/limbaugh-sarcastically-admits-don-blankenship-is-for-big-profit-at-the-expense-of-the-working-man\/\">repost<\/a><\/em><em>,<\/em> Brad Johnson has the story and the audio clips:<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-22994\"><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>At Crooks and Liars, they\u2019re the ones that are putting  out the notion that this guy Blankenship \u2014 by the way he\u2019s committed  another crime, too \u2014 he\u2019s on the board of directors of the Chamber of  Commerce.  Yeah, that\u2019s reported as though that\u2019s a strike against him.   <strong>Oh, yeah, he\u2019s one of those guys, Chamber of Commerce guys.   That means he\u2019s for big profit at the expense of the working man<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Listen here:<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"320\" height=\"60\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/1vWDamM3Yn8&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"320\" height=\"60\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/1vWDamM3Yn8&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&amp;\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Blankenship has, in fact, repeatedly admitted that he is \u201cfor big  profit at the expense of the working man.\u201d In 1984, he described how he  works to \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/wonkroom.thinkprogress.org\/2010\/04\/09\/blankenship-unions\/\">sell  coal cheaper<\/a> to drive union coal out of business.\u201d He continued  that \u201cunions, communities, people, everybody\u2019s going to have to learn\u201d  that capitalism is \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/wonkroom.thinkprogress.org\/2010\/04\/08\/blankenship-survival-fittest\/\">survival  of the most productive<\/a>.\u201d In 2005, he told his workers to \u201cignore\u201d  requests by safety inspectors \u201cto do anything other than run coal\u201d  because \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/wonkroom.thinkprogress.org\/2010\/04\/07\/blankenship-coal-pays\/\">the  coal pays the bills<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Limbaugh also questioned why people are blaming Republicans who  \u201cfought new regulations\u201d instead of the \u201cObama regime\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Now, what the hell here?  <strong>We\u2019re going to blame  Republicans for this<\/strong>?  It was Bush\u2019s fault at the Sago mine.  <strong>Now  we\u2019re gonna blame this guy for contributing to Republicans because I  guess Republicans fought new regulations<\/strong>?  And now the Obama  regime is angry?  <strong>Has the Obama regime not been in office for  over a year, have they not had their own labor board people in there<\/strong>?   I\u2019ll tell you, I don\u2019t have a word to describe my disgust for these  people.  Every damn thing that happens gets politicized. Joe Main, Obama\u2019s pick to run the Mine  Health and Safety Administration, was <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wvgazette.com\/coaltattoo\/2009\/10\/21\/msha-update-senate-confirms-joe-main\/\">confirmed<\/a> by the Senate after a <a href=\"http:\/\/thepumphandle.wordpress.com\/2009\/07\/06\/msha-nominee-announced\/\">three-and-a-half  month delay<\/a>. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis\u2019s nomination was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601087&amp;sid=afDFicxjLhkA\">blocked  by Republicans<\/a> for over a month. Coal mining companies have been <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Blotter\/coal-mining-industry-ducks-punishment-safety-sins-clogging\/story?id=10302187\">appealing  twice as many of the citations<\/a> \u2014 especially the major ones.
