The gene is MTHFD1L and is located on chromosome 6.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2010\/04\/100413170705.htm\" >small phase II trial<\/a> (n=24) of intravenous Gamma Globulin has shown evidence of reduced ventricular enlargement and brain atrophy in people with Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease compared to the control group. It will be interesting to see the results of the Phase III study when completed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The American Academy of Neurology have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2010\/04\/100412161902.htm\" >updated their guidelines<\/a> on driving advice for people with dementia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Loss of muscle mass was associated with Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2010\/04\/100412161915.htm\" >one study<\/a> and a suggested explanation was an association with reduced activity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2010\/03\/100325143057.htm\" >another study<\/a> there was found to be a strong association between ABeta oligomers in the CSF and performance on memory tasks in people with Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A prospective study (n=2148) looked at risk of Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease according to dietary patterns and identified one diet associated with a clinically and statistically significant reduced risk. See <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2010\/04\/100412161913.htm\" >here<\/a> for further details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">Miscellaneous<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A widely reported <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/health\/8622137.stm\" >neuroimaging study<\/a> provided evidence of frontal cortex activity being divided between hemispheres for two tasks compared to one. Additionally the authors concluded that there was a deterioration in allocation of resources for more than two tasks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/theamazingworldofpsychiatry.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/01\/psychiatry-2-0\/\" >Psychiatry 2.0<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Shrink Rap <a href=\"http:\/\/psychiatrist-blog.blogspot.com\/2010\/04\/meet-prozac-pilot.html\" >write  about depression<\/a> in pilots as well as linking to a news video on  this subject.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>At the <a href=\"http:\/\/emdriausa.wordpress.com\/2010\/04\/12\/spread-the-word-newsletter-launch\/\" >EMDR  International Association<\/a> blog there is a discussion of an EMDR  newsletter that is being launched as well <a href=\"http:\/\/mytraumatherapy.com\/blog\/?cat=13\" >as a blog<\/a> which  describes successful applications of EMDR.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>At PsychCentral there is <a href=\"http:\/\/psychcentral.com\/blog\/archives\/2010\/04\/17\/does-marriage-help-your-health-and-happiness\/\" >an  article<\/a> on the complex relationship between marriage and health.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Zivkovic has a <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/clock\/2010\/04\/best_post_on_media_science_jou.php\" >useful post<\/a> linking to some of his favourite articles on science journalism and blogging at &#8216;A Blog Around the Clock&#8217;. I found <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/clock\/2010\/04\/twittering_is_a_difficult_art.php\" >this one<\/a> on twittering quite interesting as Zivkovic differentiates between two twittering approaches which he refers to as life casting and mindcasting (social networking versus dissemination of information).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In another edition of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mindhacks.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/20100416_spike_act.html\" >Spike activity<\/a> at Mind Hacks, evidence of reduced racial bias in people with Williams Syndrome as well as the effects of Botulinum Toxin on emotional experience are just some of the topics discussed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>There is an <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.abc.net.au\/allinthemind\/2010\/04\/elisabeth-kublerross-the-full-archival-interview.html\" >archived interview<\/a> with Elisabeth Kubler-Ross over at &#8216;All in the Mind&#8217;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>At Nou Stuff, there is a discussion of a <a href=\"http:\/\/noustuff.wordpress.com\/2010\/04\/18\/behavioural-effects-of-early-focal-damage-to-prefrontal-cortex\/\" >case study<\/a> looking at the effects of resection of the right inferior dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The Neurocritic has an <a href=\"http:\/\/neurocritic.blogspot.com\/2010\/04\/mirror-neurons-join-marilyn-monroe.html#links\" >amusing post<\/a> on mirron neurons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Over at the <a href=\"http:\/\/the-mouse-trap.com\/2010\/04\/14\/tow-views-of-brain-function-reflexivereactive-or-intrinsicproactive\/\" >Mouse Trap<\/a> there is an interesting review of a paper about  energy usage in the brain and reflexive versus intrinsic functions based  around the default mode network.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>At Singularity Hub, there is a <a href=\"http:\/\/singularityhub.com\/2010\/04\/17\/cold-temperatures-and-xenon-gas-save-baby-starved-for-oxygen-at-birth-are-you-next\/\" >look at a recent experimental intervention<\/a> in a newborn with oxygen deprivation which involved cooling the body and using xenon gas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Somatosphere link to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.somatosphere.net\/2010\/04\/special-issue-of-ethos-on-autism.html\" >special issue<\/a> of Ethos on autism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr D has a <a href=\"http:\/\/psychiatristparent.wordpress.com\/2010\/04\/12\/protecting-our-children-from-fairytales\/\" >funny  post<\/a> on buying a book for her child and  finding that the plot of  Little Red Riding Hood has been completely  rewritten.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">Evolutionary Psychiatry<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/science\/blog\/audio\/2010\/apr\/05\/science-weekly-podcast-jonathan-balcombe-lhc-cern\" >an podcast\/article<\/a> at the Guardian there is a look at a new book looking at the inner lives of animals.
