He became ill in 1997, when he was diagnosed with the degenerative disease Shy-Drager syndrome, (a rare, progressively degenerative disease of the autonomic nervous system.) <\/p>\n<div class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blurtit.com\/var\/question\/q\/q3\/q32\/q325\/q3258\/q325823_4908_986_213186630_ee17a5ec25.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by\/2.0\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blurtit.com\/css\/common\/cc.png\" style=\"vertical-align:text-bottom;width:16px;height:16px;border:0;\" title=\"Creative Commons License\"\/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/46769540@N00\/\" >alexindigo<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This diagnosis however was later altered to autonomic neuropathy associated with diabetes (affecting mostly the internal organs such as the bladder muscles.) Cash&#8217;s illness forced him to give up his touring circuit. <\/p>\n<p>He was hospitalized in 1998 with severe pneumonia. He died on 12 September 2003 just three days after being discharged from Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, following a bout of pancreatitis. <\/p>\n<p>Cash was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
