Here&#8217;s What You Need To Know About What Happened Today (GS, IBM)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"float_right\" src=\"http:\/\/static.businessinsider.com\/image\/4a720799bbbc1525746202e1-240-179\/lloydhappyjpg.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"lloydhappy.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"179\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After falling again this morning, stocks retraced and ended up posting solid gains by the close.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DJIA<\/strong>: Up 73 points to 11,092.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NASDAQ<\/strong>: Down 1 points to 2480.<\/p>\n<p><strong>S&amp;P 500<\/strong>: Up 5 points to 1197.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Commodities<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oil: Down 1.9% or $1.58 to $81.66 a barrel.<\/li>\n<li>Gold: Down 0.1% or $2.10 to $1134.80 an ounce.<\/li>\n<li>Silver: Up 0.3% or $0.06 to $17.73 an ounce.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Now here&#8217;s what you need to know as you leave work today<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Goldman Sachs have released <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/goldman-sachs-defend-2010-4\">their defense<\/a>, and it looks <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/henry-blodget-goldman-to-sec-all-the-firms-had-the-same-disclosure-and-all-the-buyers-knew-that-someone-was-betting-against-them-2010-4\">strong enough<\/a> to parry away many of the doubts that emerged with the SEC&#8217;s charges<\/strong>. Goldman Sachs stock <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?client=ob&amp;q=NYSE:GS\">is rising<\/a> as the day comes to a close.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The likelihood that this was a politically motivated move by the SEC is increasing as it became public knowledge that the vote on the case was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/not-only-was-the-goldman-sec-vote-split-it-was-100-partisan-2010-4\">partisan<\/a>, with three Democrats voting for the case and the other two members voting against<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The volcano ash crisis seems to be abating with several companies and countries set to start flying again tomorrow<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/uk\/2010\/apr\/19\/iceland-volcano-airspace-open-forecast\">London airspace<\/a> is set to reopen tomorrow morning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>General Motors is moving ahead of schedule to repay <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052748704671904575194283935824908.html?mod=WSJ_auto_IndustryCollection\">$4.7 billion<\/a> in loans from the U.S. government<\/strong>. GM plans to make this repayment ahead of the June deadline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IBM reports after the bell today<\/strong>.
