Gasp! That&#8217;s right, Pres. George Washington was just as big a fan of the library as <a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.grist.org\/article\/2010-04-19-ask-umbra-on-food-dehydrators-free-range-poultry-and-e-readers\/\">Ask Umbra<\/a> (woot for reusing, Mr. Prez); however, according<br \/>\nto an old ledger book (and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boingboing.net\/2010\/04\/19\/george-washington-ow.html\">Boing<br \/>\nBoing<\/a>), Washington checked out two books from the New York<br \/>\nSociety Library in October 1789&mdash;one on international law and one a transcript<br \/>\nof debates in the British House of Commons&mdash;and never returned them.
