{"id":534764,"date":"2010-04-19T19:05:59","date_gmt":"2010-04-19T23:05:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chicagopressrelease.com\/press-releases\/firefighter-hospitalized-after-extra-alarm-blaze"},"modified":"2010-04-22T22:59:46","modified_gmt":"2010-04-23T02:59:46","slug":"firefighter-hospitalized-after-extra-alarm-blaze","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/534764","title":{"rendered":"Firefighter hospitalized after extra-alarm blaze"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHICAGO\u00a0(CHICAGOPRESSRELEASE.COM)\u00a0 &#8212; Firefighters battled an extra-alarm blaze for nearly two hours Monday afternoon after mattresses caught fire in a South Side commercial building, ultimately sending one firefighter to a hospital for exhaustion.<\/p>\n<p> An EMS Plan 1, which sends five ambulances, was called at 2:10 p.m. for the three-alarm fire in a three-story commercial building at 1520 W. <span\nid=\"more-29429\"><\/span>Pershing Rd., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said.<\/p>\n<p> The initial fire was reported at 1:20 p.m., but was soon elevated to a second and then a third alarm, he said. By 3:15 p.m. the fire had been extinguished, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.<\/p>\n<p> One firefighter was taken to a hospital in good condition for treatment of exhaustion, Langford said.<\/p>\n<p> Firefighters had been moving burning mattresses out of the building via a loading dock in an effort to extinguish them, Rosado said.<\/p>\n<p> The structure of the building was not damaged, although hundreds of stacked mattresses caught fire and were destroyed.
