Such thromboses can cause pulmonary embolism or even heart attacks. Air travel is recognized as a risk factor for deep vein thrombosis with evidence showing the wearing of compression socks or tights while traveling reduces the incidence of thrombosis in people on long flights. However many people don&#8217;t wear such items as they don&#8217;t realize they may be at risk.
