There are just so many in there that I could use them to write this feature for the next year. Clearly I won’t get to all of them — ‘dems the breaks. But I can take some time to look back on the ones I found remarkable enough to bookmark in the first place. So, without further ado…

Palm Pre

For some reason, BlackBerry users like to dress up their devices like other devices. In the BBGeeks Store, the No. 1 selling theme is an iPhone one. We’ve also seen a number of other replica themes in the past, including one for the Hero OS. Today we’re looking at a Palm Pre style theme.

The most prominent feature of this theme, as you might have guessed, is the Pre icon set. Beyond that, it looks like many other BlackBerry themes. Up top you can find the date, time indicators, profiles, and messages. There’s room for a weather icon on the right side. On the screen’s bottom there is room for five customizable icons (they say six, but I only see five). It also comes in two flavors: Today, with a fixed calendar preview, and Zen, with a hidden today for calendar and messages.

If you want to turn your BlackBerry into a Palm Pre, you can get the Pre theme for $5.99. It is compatible for all BlackBerry devices running OS 4.6 and above, including touchscreens.

Phase

Some themes present superior functionality. Others are visual marvels. It’s not often that we find a theme that combines both with elegance. Yet, every time I find one such theme, it seems to come from a small group of designers. One of them is Elecite, and one of their newer themes, Phase, really caught my eye at first.

The home screen features six large icons that allow you to navigate your media files, options, browser, calendar, messages, and contacts. The accompanying avatars are quite neat, and fit the blue and black color scheme. I really enjoyed the icon set, a bit of a neon blue against a black background. While it doesn’t have the dozen home screen icons and Today preview that I so enjoy, this is still a pretty cool theme.

You can get the Phase theme for $6.99. It will run on BlackBerry devices running OS 4.6 and above, including — nay, especially — the Storm. I just like the look and feel of it better on the touch device.

Desktop Paperclip

I don’t know why, but when I first saw the Desktop Paperclip I was immediately drawn to it. Maybe it’s because of the quirky layout. Maybe it’s because of the equally quirky icons. In any case, this is definitely one I’d recommend if you enjoy off-beat themes.

The home screen features four icons running down the left side: messages, SMS, contacts, and calendar. It’s a hidden dock, too, so you can enjoy the whole view if you so choose. The whole view, of course, looks like an office, as the theme’s name implies. The icons look like drawings on Post-It notes. Other screens feature index cards and other officey items. A neat note: the battery meter is a pencil, which is yellow normally, but green when charging.

Again, if you enjoy themes that really stand out, you can get the Desktop Paperclip theme for $3.99 — though it is on sale for $2.99 from now until April 30. It is compatible with BlackBerry devices running OS 4.6 and above.

This post originated at BBGeeks.com – home to all things Blackberry!
