An enterprising soul wanted to know if a Lava lamp would function on Jupiter given it’s different gravity, so he created a homemade centrifuge using a Nexus One as a g-force meter.\u00a0 Check out the video to see a mildly entertaining science experiment. Lava lamp lovers can rejoice, it seems that they indeed will work in Jupiter’s atmosphere.<\/p>\n

The maker of the video does point out that the accelerometer in the N1 are badly calibrated as they gave false readings the faster the unit went.\u00a0 This seems to be a documented bug, but I don’t think the fix is coming quickly since using the phone at those speeds is not a typical application.<\/p>\n

Either way, now we know that we can take our hot pink Lava lamps with us on our next trip to Jupiter!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
