The Big Picture Says Otherwise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6631 aligncenter\" title=\"LEAF_NY_2010\" src=\"http:\/\/go635254.s3.amazonaws.com\/gas2\/files\/2010\/04\/LEAF_NY_2010.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"329\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As we get closer to the impending launch of the next generation of electric cars from manufacturers like <a href=\"http:\/\/gas2.org\/2010\/03\/30\/its-official-nissan-leaf-electric-car-will-cost-32780-could-be-20k-after-tax-credits\/\" >Nissan<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/gas2.org\/2009\/09\/14\/i-miev-pre-orders-sell-out-in-first-two-months\/\" >Mitsubishi<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/gas2.org\/2010\/02\/15\/a-short-test-drive-in-the-ford-transit-connect-electric-a-few-more-details\/\" >Ford<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/gas2.org\/2010\/04\/13\/chevy-volt-on-track-for-production-epa-still-doesnt-know-how-to-rate-mileage\/\" >GM<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/gas2.org\/2010\/02\/03\/tesla-plans-two-spin-offs-from-model-s-sedan\/\" >Tesla<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/gas2.org\/2010\/03\/12\/fisker-says-it-could-build-100000-electric-cars-annually-at-delaware-plant\/\" >Fisker<\/a>, the chorus of commentators claiming they will be a flop and are likely to never pay back their investment for the automakers that choose to build them is getting larger.<\/p>\n<p>In the past couple months alone I&#8217;ve seen two rather high profile &#8220;parade rainers&#8221; \u2014 from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/2010\/02\/19\/flint-nissan-leaf-business-autos-electric.html\" >Forbes<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/wardsauto.com\/commentary\/leaf_nissan_ev_100409\/\" >Ward&#8217;s Auto<\/a> \u2014\u00a0come right out and say they think electric cars are an overly risky business bet which the overwhelming odds favor losing.
