{"id":539571,"date":"2010-04-22T10:33:17","date_gmt":"2010-04-22T14:33:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cleantechnica.com\/?p=8582"},"modified":"2010-04-22T10:33:17","modified_gmt":"2010-04-22T14:33:17","slug":"oil-industry-uses-pbs-nova-to-scare-voters-about-the-%e2%80%9crisk%e2%80%9d-of-clean-energy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/539571","title":{"rendered":"Oil Industry Uses PBS Nova to Scare Voters About the \u201cRisk\u201d of Clean Energy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cleantechnica.com\/files\/2010\/04\/disaster.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8593\" title=\"disaster\" src=\"http:\/\/go635254.s3.amazonaws.com\/cleantechnica\/files\/2010\/04\/disaster.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"316\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFor somebody old enough to remember PBS before &#8220;fair and balanced&#8221; news, last night was a shock.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Energy: the Big Gamble&#8221; on PBS Nova contained blatant lies about  the pending climate legislation in California. <em>Funding for  NOVA<\/em> is provided by ExxonMobil, Pacific Life, <em>David   H<\/em>. <em>Koch<\/em>&#8230; This is the same <em>Koch<\/em> family, that makes its billions off oil and gas, that Greenpeace found had spent<a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/news\/dirty-money-climate-30032010\"> $25 million <\/a>from 2005 to 2008  funding\u00a0 climate denial. This show was designed to scare US voters, and initially, California voters who now <a href=\"http:\/\/cleantechnica.com\/2010\/04\/21\/texas-oil-companies-double-spending-to-make-california-voters-kill-their-climate-bill\/\" >face the oil industry&#8217;s ballot initiative<\/a> to put a stop to pending climate legislation, AB32 to move the state to a clean energy economy.<\/p>\n<p>The message of the NOVA piece is that moving  to a clean energy economy is just too risky. To drive the message into our subconscious, the  show itself is  called &#8220;Energy: The Big Gamble&#8221; and <strong>each time the narrator intones  on the terrors of climate legislation,   dice are shown being rolled (by uncaring hands) to show you just what a risk is being taken with your life. <\/strong>Tremble, Californians!\u00a0 Some unseen gambler is messing with your livelihood.<\/p>\n<p>Two segments contained particularly self-serving lies for the oil and  gas industry now battling the climate legislation in California. In one  segment about all the problems they claim will come with clean energy,  they actually<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/nova\/transcripts\/3519_energy.html\" > insinuate that California <strong>has blackouts<\/strong> &#8211; supposedly because we have too much renewable energy!<\/a><br \/>\n <a href=\"http:\/\/cleantechnica.com\/2010\/04\/22\/oil-industry-uses-pbs-nova-to-scaremonger-risk-of-clean-energy\/#more-8582\" class=\"more-link\">(more&#8230;)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For somebody old enough to remember PBS before &#8220;fair and balanced&#8221; news, last night was a shock. &#8220;Energy: the Big Gamble&#8221; on PBS Nova contained blatant lies about the pending climate legislation in California.
