{"id":539579,"date":"2010-04-22T11:41:54","date_gmt":"2010-04-22T15:41:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greenrightnow.com\/?p=11012"},"modified":"2010-04-22T11:41:54","modified_gmt":"2010-04-22T15:41:54","slug":"goodwill-and-dell%e2%80%99s-electronic-recycling-expands-to-take-in-x-box-and-zune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/539579","title":{"rendered":"Goodwill and Dell\u2019s electronic recycling expands to take in X-box and Zune"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>From Green Right Now Reports<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Looking to move that aging game equipment out of the garage?<\/p>\n<p>The recycling service, <a href=\"http:\/\/cts.businesswire.com\/ct\/CT?id=smartlink&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Freconnectpartnership.com%2F&amp;esheet=6258037&amp;lan=en_US&amp;anchor=Reconnect&amp;index=1&amp;md5=8c4764323546a1f19442aaed955af06c\" >Reconnect<\/a>, set up by Dell and Goodwill Industries, is expanding with the help of Microsoft to collect more than PCs and computers.<\/p>\n<p>Now the free collection service, available at nearly 2,000 Goodwill locations, also will accept Microsoft entertainment products like Xbox, Zune and their accessories, Round Rock, Texas-based Dell announced today.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft will be participating and contributing to the program to help consumers recycle more easily.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe world consumes more electronic products every year, so it\u2019s important to dispose of or recycle these items responsibly,\u201d said Brian Tobey, corporate vice president at Microsoft, in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecycling of our consumer hardware products is a major part of Microsoft\u2019s commitment to minimizing our environmental impact and that of our customers.<\/p>\n<p>Reconnect has diverted more than 96 million pounds of        e-waste from landfills and created about 250 green jobs since its launch in 2004, according to Dell and Goodwill.<\/p>\n<p>Goodwill employees disassemble the computers and equipment, selling the component parts. Some equipment is reburbished and resold. The program supports Goodwill&#8217;s job training mission and employs people with employment challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElectronics recycling needs more awareness and more industry participation,\u201d said Mike Watson, senior manager of Dell Global Recycling Services. \u201cThe Reconnect program exemplifies what sustainability practices can mean to our communities \u2013 extended life for technology and a successful life for our citizens.
