The German carmaker takes another shot at a high-end, four-door coupe.<\/em><\/p>\n

In a move reminiscent of\u2014and likely inspired by\u2014its sultry Concept CS<\/a> of 2007, BMW is unveiling a new, low-profile, four-door coupe concept at the 2010 Beijing auto show<\/a>. Called the BMW Concept Gran Coup\u00e9, it\u2019s meant to showcase the company\u2019s design abilities and philosophy. It\u2019s also another one-off concept that we wish BMW would actually build.<\/p>\n

According to BMW, the Gran Coup\u00e9 \u201cconcentrates the design expertise of the brand\u201d and \u201ccaptures a sense of superior dynamic performance and high-quality elegance.\u201d Whatever. It\u2019s a low-slung, long-wheelbase, edgy-looking sedan with a coupe-like roofline and short overhangs. The possibility of it reaching production is probably very low, and details about its powerplant and drivetrain technology are not available. What we can tell you is that the Gran Coup\u00e9 is a few inches longer than the new 5-series<\/a> at nearly 197 inches, but is about four inches lower at 55.1.<\/p>\n
