But as far as<br \/>\ndemocracy is concerned, the English are light years behind.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>I tried to make a<br \/>\nsimilar case last month. After visiting Welsh cleantech businesses and research<br \/>\nhubs for a week, I <a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.grist.org\/article\/2010-03-30-wales-britains-appalachia-engineers-a-brighter-post-coal-future\/PALL\">suggested<\/a> it&#8217;s the political culture plus a national existential crisis brought on by the<br \/>\ncollapse of the coal-mining industry that are driving Wales&#8217; ambitious effort to become a cleantech leader.
