An <a href=\"http:\/\/www.treehugger.com\/files\/2010\/04\/save-the-whales-we-need-their-poo.php\">article<br \/>\non Treehugger<\/a> shares yet another reason not to whale on whales:&nbsp;They crap ecosystem<br \/>\ngold.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Ocean acidification, caused by seawater absorbing too much carbon dioxide, is a<br \/>\nmajor problem facing marine ecosystems. As water&#8217;s pH drops, so does aquatic organisms&#8217;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tgdaily.com\/sustainability-features\/49488-ocean-acidification-intensifying-says-committee\">ability to photosynthesize and absorb nutrients<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>One geoengineering quick fix is to plunk iron into the ocean, fertilizing the entire<br \/>\nfood chain and encouraging marine plant growth. But holy crap&#8212;researchers recently discovered<br \/>\nthat when whales eat iron-rich krill, they naturally fertilizer the water themselves.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s hope the anti-whaling movement finds new fuel in this.
