Rocker-turned-reality star Bret Michael is conscious but speaking with slurred speech after being rushed to the hospital on Friday suffering a massive brain hemorrhage.<\/p>\n
<\/span><\/p>\n Doctors diagnosed a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage, or bleeding at the base of his brain stem, after the 47-year-old musician complained of an excruciating headache.<\/p>\n Bret remains in critical condition, but is conscious and talking with slow, slurred speech, his publicist said on Sunday. He’s still under 24-hour supervision as doctors try to locate the source of the brain bleeding.<\/p>\n “Bret is a fighter and we are hopeful that once all is complete, the slurred speech, blurred vision and dizziness etc will be eliminated and all functions will return to normal,” <\/em>a rep for the star said in a statement this afternoon.<\/p>\n Michaels — who was diagnosed with diabetes as a child — had an emergency appendectomy earlier this month. In a blog entry pened on Wednesday, Bret called his recent health troubles a “wake-up call to be a little bit more diligent on keeping control of my health.”<\/em><\/p>\n Michaels rose to fame in the 1980s as frontman of the glam-rock band Poison.
