{"id":545664,"date":"2010-04-27T17:47:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-27T21:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"tag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00d8341c60fd53ef0133ed003852970b"},"modified":"2010-04-27T17:48:17","modified_gmt":"2010-04-27T21:48:17","slug":"democrats-advance-their-version-of-redistricting-changes-block-republican-version","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/545664","title":{"rendered":"Democrats advance their version of redistricting changes, block Republican version"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Posted by Michelle Manchir and Ray Long<\/em> at 4:42 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>SPRINGFIELD\u2014House Democrats today advanced their party\u2019s proposal to change the way legislative districts are drawn, rejecting a rival Republican proposal in a feisty political fight.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>The Democratic plan\u2014which already passed the Senate\u2014would ask voters this fall to put in place a process that would give lawmakers a strong hand in drawing the legislative boundaries following the once-a-decade census.<\/p>\n<p>The full House could vote as early as Wednesday on putting the proposed constitutional amendment on the November ballot. Democrats are a vote shy of the three-fifths tally needed for approval, however.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic-controlled committee also defeated a Republican version of redistricting reform, which has the backing of a variety of reform groups, including the League of Women Voters.\u00a0 Nine Democrats voted against the proposal, seven Republicans voted for it. But Rep.
