The Office of Technology Management (OTM) at the University of Illinois in Chicago is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Director, Business Development.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The successful candidate is responsible for the management and execution of the business development activities of the Office of Technology Management (OTM) at UIC. The Assistant Director, Business Development and Technology Management will be responsible for conceptualizing, implementing and executing the business development strategy of the OTM as well as advancing the overall goals of the OTM. Other duties include:<\/p>\n
Duties:<\/p>\n
Create, \tfacilitate, implement and lead external business development \tinitiatives to advance University of Illinois at Chicago’s \tintellectual property and maximize its financial results in both the \tshort and long term.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Create \tand implement an external business development strategy to increase \tthe OTM’s exposure to potential licensees.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Utilizing \tthe Salesforce.com customer relationship management platform, create \tperformance measurements for the business development strategy, \tcreate transaction summaries on all external business development \tactivities and provide post-transaction reviews for all processes \trelated to the external business development activities.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Keep \tall stakeholders regularly informed on status of pending external \tbusiness development transactions and developing corporate \trelationships.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Create \tstrategic relationships with other Universities to explore \topportunities to bundle like technologies and go to market with \tcomplete business solutions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Assist \tDirector in the management of the unit. Develop, administer and \tevaluate major programs or projects.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Supervise \tTechnology Management team.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Serve \ton OTM leadership team to ensure operating activities are within \tUniversity policy.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Participate \tin conferences and seminars conducted by the University, Unit, or \tprofessional organizations specific to furthering the OTM’s \texternal business development initiatives.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Participate \tin team project, with all other members of the OTM staff, regarding \tstrategic planning and preparation of the Unit’s annual operating \tplan and budget.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Develop \tan annual Professional Development plan.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Act \ton behalf of the Director of OTM in her absence.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
Serve \ton University, campus, and other committees\/teams as assigned.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
Qualifications:<\/p>\n
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years’ relevant professional experience in business, academic, or government in business development and\/or operational management; Master’s degree or professional degree (professional experience and accomplishments may be considered in lieu of the advanced degree requirement) preferred. Other required qualifications include: \u00a0proven ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion to make sound decisions; strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; demonstrated keen business intuition, results orientation, and interest in advancing business development activities for university technologies; outstanding teamwork and influence-management skills with the ability to successfully work with others at all levels; effective leadership skills with the demeanor, business maturity, intellect and integrity required to establish immediate credibility and establish results; exemplary skills and acumen to assume roles of greater responsibility over time; and proficient computer skills (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.).<\/p>\n
