We did see two devices announces, ones that we’ve been anticipating for months. CDMA carriers will get the BlackBerry Bold 9650 next month, while GSM carriers will get the Pearls 9100 and 9105. That’s not the big topic of discussion, though. No, that would be OS 6.0.

So click on over here to hear the BBGeekcast (10 min, 4 sec)

And don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast so you won’t miss future episodes!

You can also subscribe to the BBGeekcast in iTunes.

Highlights include:

Previously, I said that I’d be disappointed if OS 6.0 was just another evolutionary step from OS 5.0. After all, software is said to be RIM’s weak point, and if the company can get itself up to date with its operating system then better software might follow. I don’t think I completely thought through this position, though.

It took me getting a Nexus One to appreciate what RIM has done. The BlackBerry is the best communications device I’ve ever used, and while the Android and iPhone platforms might be “cooler,” it doesn’t mean that they do what the BlackBerry does. So I now think that, despite OS 6.0 not being much of a huge upgrade, that RIM has its ducks in a row.

We also saw another controversial BlackBerry, the 9670 flip model with a full, Storm-sized screen. We’ve seen much criticism of this device, but at the risk of sounding like a fanboy I think RIM has done a good job with this one. It’s not a device that appeals to everyone, clearly, but RIM has never really been in that business. They have an army of devices to appeal to a wide swath of the market, and this just adds to that array.

This post originated at BBGeeks.com – home to all things Blackberry!
