{"id":566657,"date":"2010-05-17T10:15:54","date_gmt":"2010-05-17T14:15:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/?p=8219"},"modified":"2010-05-17T10:15:54","modified_gmt":"2010-05-17T14:15:54","slug":"chinese-partner-in-controversial-u-s-wind-project-in-search-of-good-will","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/566657","title":{"rendered":"Chinese Partner In Controversial U.S. Wind Project In Search of Good Will"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/v1\/img\/cat\/policy.png\" width=\"8\" height=\"8\" alt=\"\" title=\"Policy\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/v1\/img\/cat\/wind.png\" width=\"8\" height=\"8\" alt=\"\" title=\"Wind\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/iStock-wind-turbine.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-6977\" title=\"iStock wind turbine\" src=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/iStock-wind-turbine-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>A-Power Systems, the Chinese wind turbine supplier that is partnering with other Chinese and U.S. companies to build a 600 megawatts wind farm in West Texas, is traveling to Dallas next week for the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) <a href=\"http:\/\/2010.windpowerexpo.com\/\">annual conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-8219\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A-Power Systems and its project partners, which include the Shenyang Power Group and U.S. private equity firm United States Renewable Energy Group have been <a href=\"http:\/\/feedproxy.google.com\/..\/2010\/03\/group-of-democratic-senators-want-to-halt-construction-of-stimulus-funded-wind-farm\/\">on the radar screen of some powerful U.S. senators<\/a>, from the moment they announced plans to build their Texas wind farm, the first Chinese-backed U.S. wind project.<\/p>\n<p>Leading the charge is Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who doesn&#8217;t like that the\u00a0 $1.5 billion facility, which is seeking U.S. government funding, will end up creating some 300, mostly temporary, jobs in the U.S. but more than 2,000 high-paying manufacturing jobs in China. His stance has put him on a collision course with the Obama administration, including Matt Rogers&#8217;s the DOE&#8217;s man in charge of disbursing the billion in stimulus money, who earlier this year <a href=\"http:\/\/feedproxy.google.com\/..\/2009\/11\/does-matt-rogers-on-china-they-intend-to-win-the-cleantech-race\/\">told G.E.R.<\/a> that Schumer&#8217;s concerns were a &#8220;none-issue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Obama administration is walking a fine line. It&#8217;s a taker for any green dollars that will help make the &#8220;green economy&#8221; a reality, but at the same time <a href=\"http:\/\/feedproxy.google.com\/..\/2009\/10\/after-cap-and-trade-next-on-the-clean-energy-agenda-keeping-it-american\/\">wants as much of that &#8220;new, new economy&#8221; to stay<\/a> in the U.S.-made and not be outsourced to China or India.<\/p>\n<p>On attending the AWEA conference <a href=\"http:\/\/investor.apowerenergy.com\/releaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=470282\">A-Power Systems said:<\/a> &#8220;The windpower Conference Program offers a platform to discuss perspectives, methods and strategies for maintaining and increasing profitability of wind energy businesses.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 A-Power is looking for backers and the AWEA conference is the place for them to forge alliances that could\u00a0be helpful crucial as it moves ahead and develops the project.<\/p>\n<p>Besides cheap, Chinese-made turbines, another advantage for A-Power, are its relationships with\u00a0Chinese banks, which these days, unlike their Western counterparts are flush with cash and eager to lend.<\/p>\n<p>On Schumer&#8217;s concern A-Power and its U.S. partners have said that a minimum of 70 percent of\u00a0each turbine powering the project would be U.S.-made.<\/p>\n<p>Image: Istockphoto<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/GreenEnergyReporter\/~4\/IryCvWfdNfU\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A-Power Systems, the Chinese wind turbine supplier that is partnering with other Chinese and U.S. companies to build a 600 megawatts wind farm in West Texas, is traveling to Dallas next week for the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) annual conference.
