{"id":568574,"date":"2010-05-18T12:21:24","date_gmt":"2010-05-18T16:21:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sevensidedcube.net\/?p=11105"},"modified":"2010-05-18T12:21:24","modified_gmt":"2010-05-18T16:21:24","slug":"experts-suggest-that-smallpox-vaccine-would-protect-against-hiv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/568574","title":{"rendered":"Experts suggest that smallpox vaccine would protect against HIV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sevensidedcube.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Experts-suggest-that-smallpox-vaccine-would-protect-against-HIV.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sevensidedcube.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Experts-suggest-that-smallpox-vaccine-would-protect-against-HIV-300x286.gif\" alt=\"Experts suggest that smallpox vaccine would protect against HIV\" title=\"Experts suggest that smallpox vaccine would protect against HIV\" width=\"300\" height=\"286\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11119\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe smallpox <strong>vaccine <\/strong>could protect people against <strong>HIV <\/strong>infection, said an article released in the journal BMC Immunology.<\/p>\n<p>According to the publication, researchers from George Mason University, George Washington and UCLA in Los Angeles, USA, showed that in the laboratory the <strong>vaccinia virus<\/strong>, the basis of the <strong>vaccine<\/strong> reduced the replication of <strong>HIV<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It appears that the compound blocks a receptor, called CCR5, on the surface of white blood cells, the same as the <strong>HIV <\/strong>virus uses to infect cells.<\/p>\n<p>However, more studies are needed before recommending the general use of the immunogen in the fight against <strong>AIDS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After the disappearance of the disease in 1977 (first eradicated throughout the world), the World Health Organization recommended removing the <strong>vaccine<\/strong>, something that happened in the same period of time when <strong>HIV<\/strong> and <strong>AIDS <\/strong>was discovered.<\/p>\n<p>Hence, the researcher suggest that the biological removal may have been the cause of the rapid spread of HIV in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Several explanations were given on how <strong>HIV<\/strong> spread in the black continent, including wars, use of unsterilized needles and the contamination of polio <strong>vaccines<\/strong>, said Raymond Weinstein, author of the work.<\/p>\n<p>But no theory has been able to determine the behavior of the pandemic, he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our finding that previous immunization with <strong>vaccinia virus<\/strong> can give a person some protection against subsequent <strong>HIV <\/strong>infection suggests that the withdrawal of this <strong>vaccine <\/strong>may have been the explanation for the rapid spread of <strong>HIV <\/strong>in Africa&#8221; Weinstein concluded\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p>No related posts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/sevensidedcube\/OXLF\/~4\/BrFnzs6CcDI\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The smallpox vaccine could protect people against HIV infection, said an article released in the journal BMC Immunology.
