Embattled Chief Executive of BP Tony Hayward come up with some controversial comments regarding the oil spill in Gulf of Mexico. \u00a0This time talking to Fox News sister network Sky News.<\/p>\n
There has been some success in reducing the flow of the leak and the amount of\u00a0 \u201coily liquid\u201d clean up crews are picking up.<\/p>\n
So Hayward told Sky while a detailed environmental assessment will be needed decide the impact :<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026everything we can see at this moment suggests that the overall environmental impact will be very, very modest.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said basically same thing to the UK’s Guardian newspaper last week :<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201c\u2026The Gulf of Mexico is a very big ocean.\u00a0\u00a0The amount of volume of oil and dispersant we are putting into it is tiny in relation to total water volume.\u201d<\/p>\n
The reaction to the latest comment?\u00a0 At the very least, environmentalists we\u2019ve talked to describe the \u201cmodest\u201d characterization as \u201cpremature.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis has the potential,\u201d according to Colin Butfield of the World Wildlife Fund, \u201cto be a major environmental disaster<\/p>\n

The estimated amount of oil released so far in the Gulf\u00a0 is some 5 million gallons. \u00a0\u00a0Over a million more than the Santa Barbara oil spill of 1969. Getting closer, day by day to the 11 million gallons spilled in the Exxon Valdez incident.<\/p>\n
UK-based author of recently-published \u201cOil\u00a0 : \u00a0Money, Politics and Power\u201d told Fox News Hayward is \u201c\u2026fighting against terrible odds.\u00a0\u00a0 He\u2019s at the mercy of his engineers.\u201d<\/p>\n
At the same time, Bower has been critical of BP Hayward\u2019s public relation approach to the crisis.<\/p>\n
Regarding the \u201chits\u201d BP is now taking from the White House, Hayward told Sky, \u201cI think it is natural that the administration demonstrate they are on top of \u00a0it\u201d<\/p>\n
