They supported ObamaCare in order to get more customers, and now they&#8217;re finding that once you pay the danegeld, you never get rid of the Dane: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\">When South Dakota and Kentucky passed similar &#8220;guaranteed coverage&#8221; and price control laws several years ago, many insurers <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/politics\/2008-09-11-2075765460_x.htm\"><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\">left these states<\/font><\/a><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\"><br \/>\nrather than slowly be bled to death. Implemented nationally, ObamaCare<br \/>\ncould drive many insurers out of business altogether. In essence,<br \/>\nprivate insurers would survive only at the arbitrary pleasure of the<br \/>\ngovernment. And the bureaucrats&#8217; whims can be arbitrary indeed.<\/font><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\">When insurers recently pointed out that ObamaCare did not actually require them to immediately <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/03\/29\/health\/policy\/29health.html\"><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\">offer coverage<\/font><\/a><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\"><br \/>\nfor certain children with preexisting conditions, Secretary of Health<br \/>\nand Human Services Kathleen Sebelius immediately threatened to <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/03\/31\/health\/policy\/31health.html\"><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\">issue regulations<\/font><\/a><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\"> forcing them to do so &#8212; regardless of the actual letter of the law.<\/font><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\">And Congress is now seeking to expand the newly-passed ObamaCare legislation to give <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/04\/21\/health\/policy\/21health.html\"><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\">federal regulators<\/font><\/a><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\"> the same power as Massachusetts state regulators to veto proposed insurance <a itxtdid=\"6470349\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.americanthinker.com\/2010\/05\/the_health_insurers_faustian_b.html#\" style=\"border-bottom: 0.075em solid darkgreen ! important; font-weight: normal ! important; font-size: 100% ! important; text-decoration: underline ! important; padding-bottom: 1px ! important; color: darkgreen ! important; background-color: transparent ! important; background-image: none; padding-top: 0pt; padding-right: 0pt; padding-left: 0pt;\" classname=\"iAs\" class=\"iAs\">rate increases<\/a> unless federal officials considered them &#8220;reasonable.&#8221;<\/font><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\">ObamaCare<br \/>\nthus places a noose around private insurers&#8217; necks. Insurance companies<br \/>\nwill be required to offer numerous benefits determined by politicians<br \/>\nand lobbyists. But they will be allowed to charge only what government<br \/>\nbureaucrats permit. No business can survive long if it must offer<br \/>\n$2,000 worth of services to customers but can charge only $1,000.<\/font><\/div>\n<p><font face=\"times new roman,times\" size=\"3\">Although<br \/>\nit is tempting to take delight at the insurance industry&#8217;s self-caused<br \/>\nplight, the inevitable collapse of the private insurance market would<br \/>\nalso leave millions of Americans without coverage.
