{"id":569314,"date":"2010-05-18T12:41:24","date_gmt":"2010-05-18T16:41:24","guid":{"rendered":"tag:blogs.courant.com,2010:\/capitol_watch\/\/9.78180"},"modified":"2010-05-18T13:05:37","modified_gmt":"2010-05-18T17:05:37","slug":"what-was-the-mcmahon-campaigns-role-in-the-blumenthal-bombshell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/569314","title":{"rendered":"What was the McMahon campaign&#8217;s role in the Blumenthal bombshell?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Did they or didn&#8217;t they?<\/p>\n<p>I was told that the&nbsp;McMahon campaign&nbsp;worked closely&nbsp;with the New York Times on the Blumenthal story &#8212;&nbsp;providing military records, information on the deferments and, most damningly, that video from the Norwalk event.<\/p>\n<p>And, last night, the campaign&nbsp;wasn&#8217;t shy about saying so.&nbsp;Staffers tweeted on the topic and posted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyructions.com\/mcmahon-strikes-turns-blumenthal-into-bruce-caputo\/\">Kevin Rennie&#8217;s blog entry&nbsp;<\/a>about it on the campaign website. Just before 11 p.m. last night, they&nbsp;sent out a press release with Rennie&#8217;s blog post &#8212; in case you missed it.<\/p>\n<p>Now, however, the website has been scrubbed and the campaign appears to be backing off its claim of credit.<\/p>\n<p>A New York Times spokeswoman tells <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/0510\/37398.html\">Politico<\/a> that the story was the product of &#8220;extensive independent reporting.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;If the McMahon campaign provided the video and other help, should the story have said so? Is this inside baseball or are there larger principles at play?<\/p>\n<p>And one more question: Did the McMahon campaign undercut the story by giving the Dems an out? <\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the tack Democratic chair Nancy DiNardo&nbsp;is taking. &#8220;Linda McMahon&#8217;s malicious, deceptive attack on Dick Blumenthal&#8217;s record of service is the lowest kind of political smear,&#8221; DiNardo said in a statement.&nbsp;&#8220;Her campaign admits they are the ones who cherry-picked the quotes and are behind the hit piece.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did they or didn&#8217;t they?
