The Israeli government stated that they have made a \u201cbig mistake\u201d by barring Noam Chomsky who is an American academic <\/em>and political activist<\/em>. The interior ministry<\/em> said that a low-level border clerk had unjustly denied him his entry earlier this week. Sabine Haddad<\/strong>, a spokeswoman for ministry, said \u201cHe should have been allowed in, it was a big mistake.\u201d \u201cThe clerk for some reason thought there was an issue of letting him in so denied him access. If he wants to come to the border he will be allowed in,\u201d she added. Chomsky was barred by Israeli immigration officials when he attempted to cross the Allen Bridge<\/strong> from Jordan on Sunday. Border officials questioned him for hours and after which his passport was stamped with \u201cDenied Entry\u201d and was sent away. Chomsky said that there was no \u201cofficial\u201d guarantee that he would be allowed in despite Haddad\u2019s statement and chose to give the lecture by video link form Amman<\/strong>, the capital of Jordan, on Tuesday. There were about a hundred students that attended the video link lecture at Bir Zeit University<\/strong> near the city of Ramallah<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Avi Chomsky, daughter of Noam Chomsky, said in an email, \u201cWe will not try to enter again.\u201d Avi Chomsky, a professor at Salem State College<\/strong>, was also denied with her entry. \u201cThis is nonsense. It was quite clear in our interview that they knew we were going only to Ramallah. In fact, that’s what they were upset about — the guy kept saying, \u2018Why won’t you go to Tel Aviv?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
