Seattle-based Cray (NASDAQ: CRAY<\/a>) said today<\/a> it has been awarded a multi-year, $47 million contract from the U.S. Department of Energy to provide supercomputing products and support services to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The machines will be used for advanced climate modeling and research. Under the terms of the contract, Cray<\/a> will first deliver an XT6 machine, which will go into production later this year, followed by a next-generation supercomputer codenamed “Baker” (plus upgrades to the XT6) in 2011.<\/p>\n
