Addressing the Republican convention for the last time, Gov. M. Jodi Rell on Friday thanked her supporters and encouraged the candidates to keep their heads held high.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font> <\/p>\n

“We are going to be victorious in November,” Rell said. “It’s an exciting time and I think we’re going to be successful.”<\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n

The speech was notable for its lack of campaign rhetoric. The governor spoke as if she were addressing friends or family. She appeared emotional at times, taking brief pauses.<\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n

“To all of you, I want to say thank you. Thank you for your support over the years.  … Thank you for your friendship.”<\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n

Mid-speech, one supporter shouted, “We love you, Jodi!”<\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n

 Rell said she plans to help Republican candidates campaign over the next few months.<\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n

“I want to be out there. I want to stand in front of grocery stores. I want to get our message out,” she said.<\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n

Looking ahead to November, Rell said she is excited to begin a new phase of her life.<\/font><\/p>\n

“I want to tell you all, it has truly been my honor to serve as our governor.”<\/font><\/p>\n
