Chevrolet will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Corvette’s participation at Le Mans on Saturday (May 22) with some special events at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s American Le Mans Series race.<\/p>\n

Corvettes have a rich history in Northern California. They raced through the streets of Pebble Beach on temporary circuits until sports-car racing found a permanent home with the construction of Laguna Seca Raceway in 1957.<\/p>\n

Legends such as John Fitch, Dick Thompson, Dick Guldstrand and Bob Bondurant solidified their reputations in Corvette race cars. Chevrolet will salute this rich racing history with a Corvette Legends of Le Mans display <\/span> at Mazda Raceway, and drivers Thompson and Guldstrand will attend the event.<\/p>\n

Chevy has built a 2011 Corvette Z06 painted in the traditional white and blue American racing colors carried by the Corvettes 50 years ago. This one-of-a-kind Corvette Z06 (VIN 0001) will be sold at auction later this year to benefit the National Corvette Museum.<\/p>\n

Fans will be able to participate in driver autograph sessions, tech talks and a Q&A with the Corvette Legends of Le Mans. Additionally, a collection of vintage and contemporary Corvette race cars will be on hand, spanning half a century of motorsports history.<\/p>\n

The six-hour Mazda Raceway event on Saturday will start at 2:30 p.m. PT and will be televised by CBS Sports on May 29 at 1:30 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n

Le Mans takes place June 12-13.<\/p>\n
