House Majority Leader Denise Merrill won on the initial round of balloting, with 44 percent of the delegate vote. State Senator Jonathan Harris from West Hartford won 31 percent of the vote and former New Haven Alderman Gerry Garcia won 24 percent. <o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoPlainText\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: black; FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoPlainText\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin\"><font color=\"#000000\">But a candidate must win at least 50 percent of the delegate votes to qualify for the party&#8217;s endorsement.
